Keep your own details on customers and bookings

Keep your own details on customers and bookings, like a dog’s size or an allergy. Make a field private and only you ever see it.

Add a field for anything you want to keep on a customer, a booking (a class spot, an appointment, a table) or a session of something you run: a dog’s size, an allergy, a preferred stylist. Ask the assistant (“Add a Dog size field on customers with Small, Medium and Large”), or tap Add a field on Custom fields.

Pick a type: text, a number, a choice, yes or no, a date, an email, a phone number, a link, an amount, a time of day, or a month and day.

Where it shows up:

  • on each customer’s page and each booking, where you fill it in with Edit fields
  • on forms: a question can save its answer to it
  • in automations, as a check (“their dog size is Large”)
  • for the API and connected apps, on the customer

A website form saves to someone’s record only when they’re new or signed in to your website. Otherwise you get their answers in the message to add yourself, and private answers are never in the message.

Keep a field private and only you see it, on your own screens: never your assistant, connected apps or webhooks.

Changing a field’s type starts it empty. Form questions that can hold the new type keep saving to it, and we tell you which ones stop before you save. Removing a field hides it and keeps what you saved, so you can bring it back from Removed fields. A new field with the same name starts empty.

For agents

Connected apps read fields on the customer with customers_get (fields_values). The screen is Settings › More › Custom fields (/settings?open=fields).
