Keep your photos and files in one library

Upload photos, videos, PDFs and camera RAW files at full size, sort them into albums and tags, and pick them for your website and products. A photo’s description goes with it everywhere it’s used.

Open Website, then Files, and choose Upload files, or drop them on the page. You can pick hundreds at once from your phone or computer; each one shows its progress, and if your connection drops, Retry picks up that file. Uploads keep going while you move to another screen.

Put files in albums to keep a shoot or a project together, and drag them into order. Albums sits under your files, with New album. New uploads follow the album you’re in: private in a private album, public otherwise. On a phone, or with a keyboard, use Move up and Move down. Tags are your own words to find things by, like "spring" or "headshots". Search finds names, tags and descriptions.

Open a file to rename it, describe what the picture shows (people using screen readers hear this, and your website uses it wherever the photo goes), add tags or albums, and make it public or private. Public photos can go on your website and products. Private files open only through a link that works for a few minutes.

Your website editor and product editor pick photos from this library, so you upload a photo once and use it anywhere.

Archive a file you don’t need. It leaves the library and is deleted for good after 30 days; until then, Archived lets you restore it. A file that’s in use can’t be archived or made private. Files tells you where it’s used, and Replace puts another photo in all those places at once. Archived files count toward your storage until they’re deleted.

Camera RAW files and videos show as a plain tile until a preview exists. RAW files are for downloading, not showing on your website.

For agents

files.list reads the library (q, albumId, tag, kind with web for website-ready photos, visibility, archived, limit, offset) with its albums and tags. Change a file with files.update (name, alt, tags, visibility). Albums: files.saveAlbum (name, description, visibility, fileIds sets exactly its files in order, add, remove) and files.deleteAlbum. files.usages says where a file is used; files.archive refuses a file in use and names the places, files.replace (fileId, withFileId) puts another file in every place, and files.archive with restore: true brings one back. Owners upload from Files (/files, Website › Files); an agent never sends file contents: use files.importFromUrl or files.uploadLink (see the "Collect files from other people" article). Product photos are images (file ids, first is the main one) on commerce.createProduct and commerce.updateProduct.
