Sell files to download

Sell a guide, a recording or photos as a digital product. Buyers get the files by email and on their account once they’ve paid, and a refund stops the downloads.

Add a digital product: Products, Add a product, Digital product. Under Files to download, choose private files from your files or upload new ones. Or ask the assistant: “Sell my sourdough guide PDF for $15.”

Once a buyer has paid in full, they get an email from you with a button to their order, where each file downloads. The files are also under Downloads on their account on your website.

Every download makes a fresh link that works for 10 minutes, so a forwarded link stops working soon after. Set Downloads per file to limit how many times each buyer can download each file, or leave it empty for no limit.

Refund the purchase and its downloads stop at once, including a link someone already opened. A repeating digital product, like a monthly pattern pack, keeps its files while the buyer’s membership is active.

The files stay private: only buyers can download them, and only while their purchase stands. Change a file in Files with Replace and buyers get the new one.

For agents

Create with commerce.createProduct (type: digital, fulfillment: digital) with downloads: private file ids from files.list (visibility: private), in order, up to 20; downloadLimit is downloads of each file per purchase (1–100, null for no limit). commerce.product answers downloads and downloadLimit. A line is entitled once its sale is paid (a one-time sale fulfilled, a repeating one active or set to cancel) while nothing on it is refunded or ended. Buyers list theirs with commerce.downloads (optional agreementId) and download with commerce.download (lineId, fileId), which counts the download and answers a url that works for 10 minutes and checks the purchase again on every request. Each download shows on the customer’s timeline. Delivery is one commerce.downloads email per sale, linking to the order page.
