Finish setting up your business

Setup walks you through what’s left, one step at a time, and we can do most of it for you. Skip anything and come back to it here or on Today.

When you start a business, you land on Setup. It shows every step down the side, with where each one stands, and the one you’re on beside it. Tap any step to jump to it. If you leave, you come back to the first step that still needs you. On a phone it’s one step per screen; tap Step 3 of 7 to see them all.

A business that’s open or starting begins by checking what you gave us: your details (name, kind of business, phone, email and website) and your services, with how long each takes and what it costs. Then your logo, your colors and fonts, with your website beside them, and your clients. Then research your market, check who your customers are and set your goals, which fill in your business plan. After that come hours, payments, publishing and the rest.

An idea starts with research, then who your customers are, a name, your logo and colors, a waitlist page and your goals. The last step opens your business: pick the kind of business, and we turn on the tools a business like yours uses and draft your website. It takes a minute or two, then Setup shows the steps for an open business.

Each step works the same way. Fill in or change what’s there and press Continue. Tap a suggestion to use it; each says where it came from, like from your website. Open Tell us in your words to type or paste it instead, and we fill in the form for you to check. Nothing saves until you press Continue. Do it for me does the step for you where we can, and Skip for now leaves it for later.

To bring your clients over, export them from Square, Mindbody, Vagaro or Acuity and drop the file in. We bring in clients, services and upcoming bookings. Past visits stay in your old tool. Rather not do it yourself? Send us the file and we’ll do it: we write back within a day.

Finish setting up on Today shows your next three steps from the same list, with what we can do for you in one button. See every step opens Setup. Getting found is done once your listing in the Allpage directory is complete, and it lists what’s missing. If your home page couldn’t be composed for your business, the list shows Compose your home page, and Do it for me tries again. It only replaces our sample, never your own changes.

Once your website is live, ChatGPT and your assistant offer what’s left in the order that fits your kind of business. For your hours, your address or how your business is set up, they just ask you and save what you say. A step your plan doesn’t include says so, with a link to see what each plan includes.

For agents

Setup is /b/<id>/setup (?step=<id> opens one). onboarding.next answers the step to do now, in setup’s order for the business’s stage, with its action (the operation and its input as it stands, a hand-off link, or wait), confirm and suggestions (each with its source). For basics and services, ask the owner, save their answer with the action’s operation (business.updateProfile with version; offerings.save with offeringId and admissions), then call onboarding.confirm with the stepId. onboarding.confirm also closes the logo, look and clients steps as they stand. The business plan’s steps: research (write it and pass it to planning.research as research; done once research has filled the plan), customers and goals (planning.update with version, then onboarding.confirm), and for an idea names (planning.names, planning.pickName, or confirm to keep the name), waitlist (planning.waitlist) and open (business.open with kind, a task read with business.operation). Never use a suggestion without asking. onboarding.steps lists every step with current; Finish setting up on Today reads it. After launch, onboarding.nextSteps lists the remaining steps in the recipe’s order, each offered as here (onboarding.doIt), allpage (onboarding.handOff), yours (its operation with input), plan (not on the plan: the plans page, no price) or wait. The site_home step (Compose your home page) shows only while the home page is still the starter’s; its do-it runs site.compose, which refuses once the owner has changed the page. import.requestHelp (source, note) asks Allpage to bring the clients over for the owner; we write back within a day.
