Start a business

Give your name and anything you have, like your website, Instagram or prices, and get a business with its details filled in and a private website draft, ready to edit and publish.

Go to /start, or Start right here on the front page, and say where you are: an idea, starting, or already open. Add your business’s name, then type or paste anything you have: what you do, where you are, your website, your Instagram, an email or phone, and services with their length and price, like “Haircut 60 min $75”. Each thing we recognize shows as a chip you can change or remove. Paste your website and we read it for your contact details, opening hours, services, prices and logo, marked “from your website”. A site you only like the look of? Tap it to switch it to Inspiration: we use only its colors and fonts, never its words or photos. If we can’t tell what kind of business it is, pick the closest, or None of these for a simple website. Advanced has the color, style and fonts. Then Build it. You get the business with its details filled in and a private website draft from a sample for your kind of business, with your words as its introduction and your prices, ready to edit and publish. The tools businesses like yours use are already on and set up, with booking confirmations and reminders, so there’s nothing to turn on first. Have only an idea? Describe it and where, and Research my idea looks at who pays, what to charge and who you’d compete with. An idea is a business of its own, listed under Ideas when you switch businesses, with no name needed yet: we call it by the first words of your idea until you pick one. It’s free until you open it, and only the tools an idea needs are on: your brand, files, licenses and permits, and your plan. When you’re ready, Open your business gives it a private website draft and turns on the tools for its kind. If the connection drops, trying again finishes the same business instead of making a second. You can start up to 5 businesses a day, and have up to 20 at once; keeping one you started before signing in counts too. Past that, you’re told when you can start the next.

For agents

Start one with business.create (a person operation, from the account rather than inside a business; organizations.list lists the person’s businesses). The kind is one site.starters lists: a website starter id (portfolio when none fits, so every business starts with a website, with no kind’s offerings or prices), or a recipe’s id like barbershop or nails, which starts from its starter and sets the business up as that kind. It applies that kind’s recipe whole before it answers: its tools, their settings and its automations. Send the same idempotency key on a retry to finish the same business. If the owner has a website, pass website, its logoUrl and what onboarding.readWebsite found as facts with source: 'website'; pass their social accounts as socials. Facts fill only what the other fields leave empty, and a service fact needs a price to be used. Sites they only like the look of go in inspiration: only their look is used. For an idea, pass stage: 'idea' and a pitch (name, kind and email are optional; the working name comes from the pitch): no website draft or recipe until business.open, which takes the kind (or the one the business has, else portfolio) and an optional new name, answers a task to read with business.operation, then drafts the website, applies the recipe and moves the business to launched. It runs only on an idea.
